A few hours after arriving in Tonga, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended a dinner hosted by King Tupou VI and Queen Nanasipauu. Held at Consular House in central Nuku’alofa, the couple reportedly walked in to John Lennon’s “Imagine.”

The King and Queen have been on the throne for six years now, while the King was in fact educated in England and Australia, before returning to Tonga in the late 1990s. In-between arriving and the dinner, the four sat down for a private audience.

Following dinner, guests were treated to a performance of traditional Tongan entertainment.

Harry also made a speech, a highlight of which included:

“Coming to Tonga I feel very much as though I am coming to visit an extended family.

“My grandparents have visited a number of times and Your Majesties have been frequent visitors to see my family over the years. We have a strong bond as members of the Commonwealth; we share so much history – and common values.

“Tongan soldiers served with our allies during the First and Second World Wars and later independently to offer support in Iraq and Afghanistan. […]

“Tongan artists such as Uili Lousi are winning international awards and your magnificent artefacts were a highlight at the recent Oceania exhibition in London, which my wife enjoyed very much when she opened it.

“For a small population you have a very large presence on the world stage – a product of your talent and drive. We are both so looking forward to meeting many of you tomorrow- learning more about your culture and development as a strong and independent country.”

Meghan’s white Grecian-style gown is drawing comparisons to the Stella McCartney she wore to her wedding reception back in May. Reportedly, the designer behind it was alerted to construct the dress with extra seaming room, alerting her to the pregnancy well before the announcement. Silence is golden, so I would imagine the fact that tidbit was kept quiet until the Palace confirmed earned her some marks with the Sussexes.

The look was completed with a Givenchy clutch, Aquazzura heels and a aquamarine ring once owned by the late Princess of Wales.

I’m going to keep this short – I’m about a day behind and I have three more posts to get up before another day’s worth of engagements is upon us!
