A Sartorial Win at Pakistan’s National Monument

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge this evening attended a reception held at Pakistan’s National Monument to celebrate their official visit. They made quite splash right out of the gate by arriving in a rickshaw – a tuk tuk – and then upped the ante even further by both debuting quite the fashion moment.

Not only did Kate look stunning in a new emerald beaded gown by Jenny Packham, William wore Sherwani. I’ve not seen a designer included in any of the reporting, so it may well be custom, but TBD.

William delivered a keynote address detailing the UK’s relationship with Pakistan and referencing the Queen’s visit 50+ years ago. He noted:

‘The view from this hill would have been quite different when my grandmother, The Queen, first visited over half a century ago. Looking out, one would have seen the beginnings of a city under construction, yet to become the great capital that it is today.

“And with successive visits by my mother and my father, this view has continued to change, with the city constantly growing and with it my family’s affection for Pakistan.”

He also spoke in-depth about climate change, notable only in that the environment and sustainability are clearly issues that the “princes” (William, Harry, and Charles) will continue to share and promote in unison. There was some debate a few months back over who would “own” those – the answer, I suppose, is no one and everyone, much like mental health between the the Cambridges and Sussexes.

It’s rare that William’s fashion gains more attention than Kate, but I think he may have won the day with his ensemble tonight, so well done 😉

As for Kate’s Jenny Packham, I love this. It’s uniquely beautiful on its own, within her classic silhouette, and yet still an appropriate nod towards the ongoing tour.

Now, we wait and see what the big news of tomorrow is. In the meantime, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had an evening event today, but I think I’m going to hold off – three posts in a day is quite enough!
