The one-week countdown until the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is officially on! It’s hard to believe we’re finally here after a whirlwind engagement and nearly a year of feverish speculation as to whether or not This. Was. It. It was and so here we are!

I’ve declined to post every time Kensington Palace offered an update on flowers, music and logistics, but it seems fitting to do a quick rundown on everything we know – from family and guests, to the dress and the cake, so let’s get into it.

It’s been a while since we’ve done a full-blown royal roundup of news, but with a few odds and ends popping up over the past week or so, today is as good a day as any to touch base on what’s been happening. The most important announcement is perhaps that Kensington Palace released a wedding date for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Mark your calendars for May 19, 2018!

Guys, I know there’s been a dearth of historical posts this month and I promise we’ll start rectifying that this weekend. Between recapping The Crown and the sheer volume of current news coming out in the last few weeks it’s been a lot and a few posts planned have had to be punted for December and January to accommodate. I can promise that I’ve written a handful of posts scheduled for next week and that things should slow down a bit with the Windsors as we get closer to Christmas. Unfortunately, the Duchess of Cambridge’s absence from the spotlight in September and most of October means there’s been a flurry of activity and, well, here we are.

On that note, Kensington Palace followed up on yesterday’s exciting news of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement with a few more details on their wedding. As they told us yesterday, it is indeed scheduled for this coming spring. Per their announcement, the wedding will be held in May 2018 at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

I was hoping we would get some arrival/departure shots of members of the Royal Family this evening and lo and behold we have. It was reported that the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were hosting a black tie dinner party this evening for 150 guests. It was deemed a private occasion this year and there was no service held at Westminster Abbey as we’ve seen in the past.

Victoria Recap: You’ll Never Want for Handkerchiefs

But you may want for a lot of other things, Albert. Anyway, look, I’ve warmed up slightly to our second favorite German prince since last week. And I say second favorite because I think we can all agree Ernest is first, from his unsubtle ruses to let his brother and Victoria have alone time to taking Albert to a “house of ill repute” in the lead up to the Great Royal Wedding of 1840. #ForGodandCountry

Episode 5, “An Ordinary Woman,” opens with some stilted conversation between Victoria and Albert before Ernest leads away the Queen’s lady-in-waiting and our future figureheads for propriety make out behind a random sheet hanging inside a rotunda. But the bliss is short-lived, because inquiring minds want to know: How much money will Albert be given? What will his title be? Who will make up his household? I don’t want to have to ask for money every time I need to buy a handkerchief, Albert says. But the Palace has loads of handkerchiefs! Victoria is bewildered, quite possibly because when she turned 18 she was handed the British Empire, but who’s to say?
