We’re going to cover the Queen’s birthday concert and the rest of the day’s festivities later on, but in the meantime I want to write up Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s attendance at a reception in honor of the upcoming Invictus Games. This year the games will be held in Sydney, Australia in October and thanks to a slip from Meghan the other week, it sounds like the couple will be attending.
The games are due to begin on October 20, just one day after Princess Eugenie is due to marry Jack Brooksbank at Windsor. (How that’s going to play out logistically is unclear!) Given that Meghan made her first public appearance at last year’s games in Toronto, it feels fitting to see her at them again, this time an official member of the Royal Family.
The couple attended the reception alongside Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and his wife, Lucy Turnbull.
There, they met with athletes expecting to compete, as well as other Australian servicemen and women, and heard more about how planning for the games is coming along.
Meghan wore a green floral dress from Self-Portrait, which is gorgeous and perfect for what is shaping up to be a very warm spring in London!
She paired it with a black blazer from Alexander McQueen and heels from Manolo Blahnik, both of which she featured at the Endeavour Awards back in February.
A few people pointed out that her ensemble at the diplomatic reception on Wednesday was a touch on the informal side, but I think she nailed it on Thursday and again today.
We’re certain to see Harry at the concert this evening, as well as the Duke of Cambridge and other members of the RF, but it’s unclear whether Meghan will also join. I would assume so, but we’ll see shortly!
