“Whitehall sources” are confirming to media that the Prince of Wales is expected to be confirmed on Friday as the next Head of the Commonwealth in due course. As such, he appeared in good spirits today when he and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, carried out their first public engagements for the ongoing Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
The couple attended a Commonwealth Big Lunch at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London, which are appearing throughout the Commonwealth and feature various international cuisine. As you may recall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge helped prep for one as part of the Duchess’s last engagement before maternity leave a few weeks ago.
Earlier today Charles also attended the Youth and People’s Forums and stopped by a session focused on plastics use and sustainability, all key topics on which he has devoted a significant portion of his public work.
Unsurprisingly in light of current speculation regarding Charles’s role with the Commonwealth, the Clarence House Twitter feed is not only focused on highlighting his and Camilla’s actions this week, but also in featuring his extensive work on behalf of various causes in Commonwealth Nations over the years.
The Prince also met with the Prime Minister of Jamaica…
…and the Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands at Clarence House.
Meanwhile, the Duke of Cambridge was also at the QEII centre today to deliver a speech to the Commonwealth Business and Youth Forum.
I’ve not seen the full text of his remarks, but Kensington Palace did share the below snippet via Twitter:

And the President of Kenya:
We’ll keep today short and sweet since the rest of this week is due to heat up. Meghan Markle will make her first appearance tomorrow at a diplomatic reception, while Thursday will not only see more Meghan and other royals during the day, but a state dinner at Buckingham Palace in the evening.
And if that weren’t enough, KP announced two more engagements for Harry and Meghan – one on Saturday on behalf of the Invictus Games and another next Monday when the couple attends the 25th anniversary memorial service for Stephen Lawrence. You can catch up on Meghan’s calendar here.
As for Kate, the wait continues!
