The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the ‘100 Days of Peace’ gala at Central Hall Westminster this evening. The event was organized by the Royal Armouries to commemorate the centenary of World War I’s end and will benefit a host of mental health charities supporting veterans, including Heads Together.
The couple was met by Lord Dannatt, former head of the British army and trustee of the Royal Armouries. He was in fact critical to Harry’s deployment in Afghanistan and now maintains a friendly relationship with him. On the menu this evening is a musical concert, however during the intermission Harry and Meghan will meet the performance and a select group of the charities’ staff.
Pivoting from yesterday’s black suit, Meghan chose a royal blue Jasun Wu dress featuring some ruching down the front. Her heels are Aquazzura’s Portrait of a Lady, the bejeweled back strap of which is stunning.
I’m not going to lie, when I first saw a photo of Meghan this evening I thought it had been photoshopped to make her look pregnant and I blinked at least thrice trying to figure out why. She’s not, but this dress is very strangely cut. Meghan is slim and petite enough that she can mostly carry this off, but it’s not quite working at all angles…to say the least.
I’ll update as the evening unfolds and any anecdotes are reported.
In the meantime, I’d like to pivot to the Duchess of Cambridge – specifically, where is she? As we’ve discussed, it’s not surprising that she hasn’t carried out an engagement just yet – Prince George’s first day of school was today, while Princess Charlotte is believed to have started her term earlier this week. But Kensington Palace usually announces these things at least a week or two in advance and it’s been radio silence thus far, while the Duke’s solo appearances have been posted as far out as September 18. I think we all took for granted that Kate would return to a normal schedule this month, but now I’m thinking there’s at least a possibility that it’s going to be later than expected.
Given that Kate made a handful of joint appearances in July, there was little indication that she was looking to extend her maternity leave into October, so I’m still hopeful that’s not the case. Fingers crossed something gets added to the calendars soon; otherwise, HRH’s critics are going to have a field day.
