This morning the Duchess of Cambridge carried out an engagement at The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden where she was shown around the costume department and treated to a private performance of the ballet ‘The Two Pigeons.’
The aim of the visit was meant to showcase the depth and breadth of the department’s work, as well as the role of textiles in shows’ final production. Ballet dancers on-site helped explain how the costumes interact with lighting, music and movement to enhance the overall effect.
Kate recycled a fuchsia Oscar de la Renta skirt suit that she first debuted in February 2017. Then, as now, she paired it with black tights and wore her hair down. The only novelty item this go around was a new pair of Rupert Sanderson heels featuring a gold buckle.
I’m not a huge fan of this ensemble – the skirt makes it all look more childish than youthful in my opinion, while I think I would be more interested in seeing her try this with her hair up and sans the stockings. Maybe next time.
There’s not been an announcement as to when Kate’s next engagement will be, but in the meantime I’m off to cover the Sussexes’ evening event (hint: sequins).
