While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were showing off their new son at Windsor Castle, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge carried out engagements in North Wales focused on community service and environmental protection.
The region is a familiar one to the couple, who lived in Wales for three years between 2010 and 2013, and it’s rather fitting that they popped over today as their nephew was introduced to the world. While their own eldest son, Prince George, was born in London, the couple still lived in Wales and returned there with him in his early infancy, which feels like eons ago now, no?
Anyway, the first item on the agenda was a visit to Caernarfon Coastguard Search and Rescue, an outfit near and dear to William’s heart given that he was previously employed as a search and rescue pilot. Indeed, he caught up with two former colleagues during the engagement.
While there, the two participated in a conversation on mental health support necessary for workers with representatives from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. Kensington Palace shared the below video:
From there they made their way to Newborough Beach where they met with the Menai Bridge Scouts and explored the beach’s wildlife habitat. While the couple lived in Anglesey, Kate actually volunteered with the Scouts, and now regularly carries out engagements with various regional outfits.
Style-wise, Kate recycled a red blazer by Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini that she first debuted for a Valentine’s Day engagement with the Royal Air Force in 2017. She styled it similarly today, with black skinny jeans, a black turtleneck and a ponytail. The blazer definitely has a bit of an awkward length, which I think may have something to do simply with how tall the Duchess is, but even so, I think this look works thanks to its pairing with the all-black garments.
For the beach, she swapped the blazer and heels for flat boots and a jacket.
As of right now, we’ll next see Kate on Tuesday, May 14 at Bletchley Park. Hopefully between now and then she and William have a chance to take their children over to Frogmore Cottage and meet the newest addition(!)
