On February 25, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended a showing of “Dear Evan Hansen” on behalf of The Royal Foundation at the Noël Coward Theatre in Covent Garden. The musical raises the topic of mental health and Kensington Palace noted in its social media posts that it’s been credited with encouraging parents and teenagers to better communicate.

The couple arrived at the theatre, shook hands, took in the show, and then met with members of the cast at its close.

A note from William was included in the program:

Catherine and I are delighted to join you this evening for a special charity performance of Dear Evan Hansen at the Noel Coward Theatre.

One of the issues that we care passionately about is mental health and we are pleased that Dear Evan Hansen is helping to start important conversations between parents and teenagers about this important subject.

Through initiatives including Heads Together and Heads Up, the Royal Foundation is helping tackle the stigma and change the conversation around mental health.

We are particularly proud that Shout , a mental health support service launched by the Royal Foundation, is one of four not-for-profit partners of Dear Evan Hansen providing mental health resources to audiences of the show.

As we look to the future, we will continue to deliver ambitious change and genuine, sustainable solutions to some of the biggest challenges we face – including the environment and ensuring young people get the best possible start in life.

Kate debuted a new customized black tweed dress by Eponine London, which she paired with her sparkly Jimmy Choo heels. It’s probably not what most of us were expecting for a night at the theatre, and I will admit to finding it a bit puzzling at first. It’s cut like a day dress, and yet the heels with the hint of sparkly thread throughout the piece certainly lend themselves towards an evening look.

I think I’ve landed on liking the dress, but I would have preferred a different shoe, and perhaps an up-do. I will say, however, that Kate’s hair looked fantastic.

With that, I’ll keep it short and sweet 🙂
