Today the Queen hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace in honor of the 50th anniversary of Prince Charles’s investiture as Prince of Wales. Charles was named PoW by his mother at the age of nine in 1958, but not formally invested with the title until the age of 20 in 1969. By his side for the anniversary were his two sons and daughters-in-law, the Dukes and Duchesses of Cambridge and Sussex, as well as his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, and his sister, the Princess Royal.

I’m late (again) – my apologies. As soon as this week wraps up things will get back to normal, but unfortunately a busy work week has coincided with a lot on the royal front. Yesterday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex accompanied the Queen at the Queen’s Young Leaders awards series at Buckingham Palace. This marks Meghan’s second public engagement with the monarch in just over one month of marriage – not too shabby a start!

Charles Hosts Buckingham Palace Garden Party

Today, the Prince of Wales hosted the season’s third official garden party at Buckingham Palace on behalf of his mother, the Queen. This is the first time that he’s taken on hosting duties for one of these parties and it’s yet another sign of him shouldering more of the monarch’s duties as the Queen gets older. We will, however, see the Queen at Scotland’s annual garden party at Holyrood Palace the first week of July.

The CHOGM State Dinner

Tonight Queen Elizabeth hosted a state dinner at Buckingham Palace in honor of the ongoing Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). It was in many ways a finale for her last 66 years of work on behalf of the Commonwealth, the continued unity of which has been a cornerstone of her reign. This morning she publicly endorsed her son, the Prince of Wales, as her successor for the non-hereditary role of the Commonwealth’s head, while tonight’s toasts acknowledged that the monarch plans to scale down her work further, relying increasingly on her family to represent her both in the UK and abroad.

Say what you will about the Duchess of Cambridge lately, but this has been a very dramatic winter of fashion. Between the floral Erdems, fur and the controversial green Jenny Packham last night, I have a feeling Kate is looking forward to the days when she can don her skinnies and a Breton-striped top in peace and call it a day. Everything else aside, it’s worth noting that Kate has been turning up at event after event, including a number of evening engagements requiring formal wear, with a smile on her face at seven months pregnant. That’s no mean feat.

The RF Brings the Bling at the BP Diplomatic Reception

I must admit, this event was not on my radar with everything else going on with our favorite family, so these pictures caught me by surprise when they popped up late today. Nevertheless, here we are! It’s tiara time. Tonight was the annual Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace, a marquee event for the Royal Family and the largest reception held at the Palace each year (1,500 people from roughly 130 countries). The event is private, though, and we are usually only privy to arrival photos of members of the RF entering BP gates.

Royal Roundup: Paradise Papers & Prince Philip’s Retirement

So, the Paradise Papers. In case you missed it, these are 13.4 million confidential documents leaked to a German newspaper last week, which contain sensitive financial information for a number of high-profile people regarding offshore investments they’ve made. Unfortunately for the British Royal Family, they’ve been wrapped up in the narrative and speculative conversations about their finances rarely stem from or lead to good things.

Apparently Meghan Met the Queen

According to Richard Kay, Prince Harry’s girlfriend, Meghan Markle, met the Queen for tea at Buckingham Palace last Thursday. Or as Kay put it:

The Ford Galaxy with blacked out windows was discreetly waved through the gates of Buckingham Palace and cruised to a halt at the Queen’s private entrance. Out stepped Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Harry, I understand, was introducing his American actress girlfriend to the Queen. They were there for tea.
