Last autumn was a crazy time for the House of Windsor, so an update on Princess Haya that I had planned for November fell through the cracks. Now that the dust has settled on Sussexit, let’s catch up on where we left off. As background for those new to this issue, Princess Haya is the estranged wife of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and ruler of the Emirate of Dubai. She “fled” Dubai for Europe over the summer and has subsequently settled in London with the couple’s two children where she’s now fighting for custody and other protections.

Princess Haya Seeks Forced Marriage Protection Order
On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, Princess Haya, the estranged wife of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, was represented in London courts in the next leg of the couple’s custody battle over their two children. While it’s been unclear since news broke that Haya fled the United Arab Emirates for Europe what the impetus for leaving was, we may some insight via her application for a forced marriage protection order for one of her children.

An Update on Princess Haya
We still don’t know a lot about what’s going on with Princess Haya, the ruler of Dubai’s wife, who reportedly fled the UAE for Europe, seeking asylum from both the UK and Germany. As far as we know, she’s still living in London with the couple’s two children, however in CNN’s write up posted on Thursday, they noted they were unable to confirm that.
What’s Going On With Princess Haya?
You may have missed this news last week, but Princess Haya bint Hussein has left her husband, Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, by fleeing the UAE and seeking asylum in Europe. It’s unclear when exactly she left the country, but news coverage took off this past Friday when the UK courts were petitioned to hear the case.
As of right now, Haya and her two children are reportedly living in London, while Germany, which she initially petitioned for asylum, has approved her application in principle.
