Harry & Meghan’s Wedding Eve [UPDATED]

UPDATE: Following tea at Windsor Castle with Meghan’s mother, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, William and Harry conducted a mini-walkabout to greet the crowds that have gathered in town.

The brothers did the same thing in London on the eve of William’s wedding in April 2011, so it’s a nice way to come full circle.

Meghan and Doria, meanwhile, were photographed leaving Windsor Castle and have arrived at Cliveden where they will spend tonight. When asked how she was feeling, Meghan responded “Wonderful!” Indeed, today and yesterday she has looked markedly relaxed and happy, which is a relief.

While William will be spending the night with Harry at the Cowarth Park Hotel, Kate and the Cambridge children will be staying at Windsor Castle with the rest of the Royal Family.

Kensington Palace confirmed earlier today that Meghan Markle asked her father-in-law to-be, the Prince of Wales, to walk her down the aisle tomorrow. This was the option I was rooting for since it makes the point so plainly that Prince Harry’s family is stepping up to the plate to welcome her into the fold. The optics send a powerful message that Charles, on behalf of his family, is ignoring the behavior of some of the less well-behaved Markles, and while I do believe Doria Ragland would have been a good choice, there’s just something to be said about it being Harry’s father in light of all the background noise.

As for Meghan walking herself – if that’s what she wanted then she would’ve done so in the first place, but that’s a stressful walk and she’s going to have on a heavy dress and a heavy tiara. Frankly, she’s going to want to be on someone’s arm.

Doria is expected to escort her daughter from the hotel where she spends tonight to St George’s Chapel tomorrow and then Meghan will walk through the Nave to the Quire where Charles will be waiting take her the the altar.

Harry and Meghan were photographed leaving Kensington Palace today – for the last time unmarried! They’re on their way to Windsor Castle for tea with Doria, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. From there, I believe the idea is that the two will split up to their separate accommodations tonight and Doria will obviously go with Meghan to Cliveden.

I’m sure there will be more tidbits as the day wears on, so I’ll update accordingly. In the meantime, let’s take a moment to remember almost exactly a year ago today when Pippa Middleton was getting married and all eyes were on whether Harry was going to bring his American girlfriend 😉
