Kensington Palace released three pictures from Saturday of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex with their wedding party and immediate family, while sharing the following message:
“The Duke and Duchess would like to thank everyone who took part in the celebrations of their Wedding.
“They feel so lucky to have been able to share their day with all those gathered in Windsor and those who watched on television across the UK, Commonwealth, and around the world.”
The photos were taken by Alexi Lubomirski, the same photographer who captured the couple’s engagement pictures last year.
The Royal Family is posed in two of them in the green drawing room inside Windsor Castle, while the third shows the couple outside. These would have been taken after the carriage procession and before the family convened with guests at the luncheon reception in St George’s Hall.
The first photo shows Harry and Meghan with their page boys and bridesmaids, including their nephew and niece, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. George, who of late has looked very serious and shy when appearing in public, has a big smile on his face, while Charlotte has the adorable look of a toddler being told to smile.
The second, a black and white glam shot taken outside, is more reminiscent of the engagement photos taken at Frogmore House, but offers a good close-up look at the bandeau tiara that Meghan borrowed from the Queen and her bouquet, which was sent along to Westminster Abbey yesterday.
Finally, the third (top of post) is the one we’ve been waiting for, which is a group shot with the wedding party and the immediate family. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are sitting, while the Duchess of Cambridge holds Charlotte in her lap and Harry and Meghan are flanked by their parents, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and Doria Ragland, as well as the Duke of Cambridge.
And I will say, Kate’s coat dress does look a bit more “primrose yellow” in these shots. An enduring mystery, to be sure.
The photos are gorgeous (obviously), intimate and just a touch informal by royal standards in a good way. The biggest thing that jumps out at me, though, is Harry’s smile in all three – that, my friends, is pure happiness.
And FYI, the couple was spotted making their way back to London today:
We’ll see the couple tomorrow at a Buckingham Palace garden party, and in the meantime I threw in a historical post this morning for those looking to break up the wedding coverage 🙂
