Remembrance Festival 2018

I’ve been out of the loop for the last 10 days, but if ever there was a moment to circle back, it’s in time for the annual Remembrance ceremonies. This evening, the Queen led senior members of the British Royal Family at the Royal Festival of Remembrance at Royal Albert Hall in London to commemorate those who lost their lives during World War I. This year is particularly significant given that tomorrow’s Armistice Day will in fact mark the anniversary’s centenary.

As for the BRF, this – like Trooping the Colour – is one event at which everyone always shows up. Wearing black…and poppies. Tomorrow is the weekend’s headliner, and I’ll be sure to cover that here as well.

Photos from these evening events can be a little touch and go given that the family sits in the royal box, but arrival and departure shots are usually captured. In this case, we know that in addition to the Queen, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, the Princess Royal and Timothy Laurence, the Duke of York, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were all on hand.

I’m two engagements behind on Kate (catch up post to come), but this evening she wore a new black Roland Mouret gown with an a-symmetrical neckline and an exposed zipper in the back. It’s a perfectly appropriate choice given that wowing on the fashion front isn’t exactly what this evening is all about.

Meghan, meanwhile, recycled a black Stella McCartney coat first seen during her engagement. I’ve not yet seen an ID on the dress she wore underneath, but will update accordingly when I do. Notably, this was the Duchess’s first public appearance since the close of mammoth four-country tour with Harry. A tour, I might, add that tested even my endurance in keeping up with it during a busy spell at work, so I can only imagine they’ve been recovering.

On that note, apologies for being out of the swing of things. I’ve been extremely remiss on the history front, and will do my best to rectify that soon. In the meantime, keep an eye out for tomorrow’s coverage and a catch up on Kate’s recent appearances.

(Oh, and last but not least, my favorite image from the evening):
