Harry & Meghan Attend Reception at British High Commission

The third and final joint engagement of the day saw the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attend a reception at the British High Commission this evening. Before we get to it, a quick housekeeping item from the afternoon – Meghan’s dress was for Bo-Kaap was ID’d as STAUD. I’ve updated the last post accordingly in case you missed it 🙂

Tonight’s reception highlighted South Africa’s youth leaders, a fitting theme given Harry’s role as Youth Ambassador for the Commonwealth. As such, they interacted with several teenagers who are spearheading community initiatives. One notable moment was captured by royal reporter Katie Nicholl – I love Harry’s uncertainty as to whether to jump in(!):

The couple was also greeted by Desmond Tutu’s daughter, Thandeka Tutu-Gxashe, who the couple will meet again tomorrow when the Sussexes visit the Tutu family.

Harry delivered a speech, touching on his and Meghan’s visit to Nyanga yesterday:

“Yesterday was quite remarkable in Nyanga. One of the things that stood out the most, as it does in a lot of the visits that we do around the world, especially within the Commonwealth, is the power of the youth, and what the young people are able to do… to change the conversation, to be able to stand up for the things that really matter to them. The more of us that can listen to them, and help amplify that voice and give them a platform, it will not only help them, it will also help us as well.”

As for fashion, Meghan recycled another look from last year’s Oceania tour. This time she chose the striped Martin Grant dress that she debuted on a beach in Sydney last October. It’s entirely possible that we’ll see a few more recycles from that tour as the pieces that worked for her first trimester are similarly flattering for her post-baby figure.

I was apathetic about this dress last time, but I think it works better for this evening’s engagement. In other words, I like it more dressed up and with Meghan’s hair (which has gotten v. long!) down. So I’m going to call this evening a style win, but I’m interested to see how the rest of you react to it on the Instagram poll that I’ll put up momentarily. You can also follow along on Facebook, as a reminder. Until tomorrow!
