The Cambridges Carry Out Final Engagement in Pakistan

The big royal news today in fact has nothing to do with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s tour – yesterday a clip promoting an upcoming documentary covering the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s recent Africa tour was released and…there’s been some furor. I’ll cover all that once the doc is released, but in the meantime you can read a little about it here.

Back in Pakistan, drama surrounding the Cambridges’ return to Islamabad from Lahore has taken central stage. Apparently the plane, housing both the couple, their staff, and the press pack, encountered significant, weather-related turbulence and the party was forced to unexpectedly spend the night in Lahore.

After the morning’s itinerary – and a costume change – the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge carried out two more engagements to a mosque and a children’s hospital. The second carries some significance in that it’s the same children’s hospital visited by William’s mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, when she was in Pakistan in 1996.

Day Three of the Pakistan tour took the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge into the Hindu Kush mountains. Their engagements included a visit to the Chiatibo Glacier, a tour of local villages in the Chitral valley, and a stop by a Kalash village. The mountain range spreads across northern Pakistan, and into Afghanistan and China in the west and east. So, a marked change of pace for the royal party after yesterday’s festivities in Islamabad.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge this evening attended a reception held at Pakistan’s National Monument to celebrate their official visit. They made quite splash right out of the gate by arriving in a rickshaw – a tuk tuk – and then upped the ante even further by both debuting quite the fashion moment.

Day Two saw the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge championing higher education for women and girls in Islamabad. The two visited a girls’ school and joined a classroom of students where they had the opportunity to witness the curriculum in action. It’s always fun to see these two interacting with kids – and it’s clearly when Kate is most at ease – and today was no different. I’ve included a few videos captured by royal reporter Rebecca English below.

William & Kate Touch Down in Pakistan

A day late and a dollar short…but the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s five-day visit to Pakistan is officially underway. The couple touched down yesterday evening, their travel reportedly having been scheduled around their ability to drop off Prince George and Princess Charlotte at school on Monday morning.

That’s a Wrap on the 2019 Africa Tour!

The big news is the lawsuit the public became aware of yesterday via a rather dramatic announcement from the Duke of Sussex. The Sussexes are suing the Mail on Sunday for the publication of a private letter the Duchess wrote her father, and which was published without her permission in February. Harry offered context for the suit with a personal and emotional statement that called out the British tabloids writ large for unnecessarily attacking his wife.

We’re going to get there, but first I do want to finish wrapping up the rest of the South Africa tour, as well as the Cambridges’ engagement in London, so keep an eye out later today for a deeper dive into this issue. And for the sake of not writing 1,000 posts today, I’m going to combine all the Sussexes’ Johannesburg engagements into one post 🙂
