On Tuesday, February 12 the Duke and Duchess of Sussex took in an evening performance of The Wider Earth, a play covering Charles Darwin’s expedition on the HMS Beagle, at the Natural History Museum. Their presence there was on behalf of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust and the production’s charitable partner, The Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy.

Oookay, after several days of press stories ricocheting off one another re: the Duchess of Sussex, tabloids and five members of her “inner circle,” it seems like it’s time we covered what’s been going on!

Harry & Meghan Attend the Endeavour Fund Awards

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the Endeavour Fund Awards at Draper Hall this evening. In the words of Kensington Palace, the series acknowledges the, “Achievements of wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women who have taken part in remarkable sporting and adventure challenges over the last year to help with their recovery.” Naturally it’s a cause right up Harry’s alley and in fact the couple also attended last year during their engagement (aka the night of Meghan’s debut tuxedo).

Harry & Meghan Visit Bristol

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex carried out a series of engagements in Bristol yesterday, braving the snow to move from walkabouts to theatres to boxing rings. This marked the couple’s first away day of 2019, akin to the Cambridges’ visit to Dundee earlier this week, however that day was very much anchored around a specific engagement to open up the new V&A museum. In general, however, we’ve seen a specific push to get the younger royals around the UK on a regular basis so that all of their domestic engagements aren’t concentrated in London.

Royal Christmas 2018

Ohhh, where to begin with the royal Christmas this year? The meat of it – beyond the photos and the Duchesses’ fashion – is really the reported angst behind the scenes between the Cambridges and Sussexes, so really there is no coverage of this year’s holiday without delving into this a bit.

The Queen Hosts Her Annual Christmas Luncheon

On Wednesday, Dec. 19, members of the British Royal Family joined the Queen for her annual Christmas luncheon at Buckingham Palace. The event marks one final hurrah for the family in London before the monarch decamps to Sandringham in Norfolk for the Christmas holiday. The meal is private, and thus our only images from it come from various royal arriving at BP in their cars.

The “Fab Four” Release [Separate] Christmas Cards

2018

Well, this was quite the week to release Christmas cards, no? Headline after headline was picking apart reported tension percolating within Kensington Palace, from feuds between the Duchesses of Cambridge and Sussex to sibling rivalry reaching a boiling point with Princes William and Harry. In the midst of this – perhaps to give the press something else to focus on as the Royal Family packed it in for the holiday – KP released two Christmas cards for each couple.

For our purposes, of course, these are not so much cards as they are images, but given that we don’t get them every year it is a nice end of year treat. In this case, the Cambridges’ card was what I think everyone was hoping for – a relaxed, informal image of the family of five with an updated look at the kids, especially Prince Louis.

A Household Divided

I’ve stopped and started writing this post a few times over the past month, with a lovely combination of my schedule and actual news coming out of London wrinkling my focus. What started out as a closer look at the Oceania tour was to become a look at the Duchess of Sussex’s first six months within the BRF…which was then to cover projections that the Cambridges and Sussexes would divide their household in 2019.

And now: the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will leave Kensington Palace next year for Frogmore Cottage (not to be confused with Frogmore House) at Windsor.
