Happy Friday, everyone! I promise we are returning to history (in fact, there are two posts on Richard III scheduled for Saturday and Sunday), but in the meantime I wanted to wrap up some smaller news items from the last few days.

Well, the Cambridges are back from Mustique, tanned, and ready to carry out an engagement for The King’s Cup Regatta in support of eight hand-selected charities. This event was originally scheduled for tomorrow, but due to the weather forecast they moved it up a day. Even better, they surprised onlookers by bringing along Prince George and Princess Charlotte for the fun.

Kate & Meghan Take Their Kids to Support William & Harry at Charity Polo Match [UPDATED]

I think a few of us were hoping that this would happen! To the delight of onlookers, the Duchesses of Cambridge and Sussex joined their husbands at the King Power Royal Charity Polo Day in Berkshire with their children. This is the first time Archie Mountbatten-Windsor has been photographed alongside his Cambridge cousins, and in fact it marks his first “appearance” outside of his formal presentation and christening. Even more, it was a nice and much-needed display of family unity following several months of negative reporting.

New Photos of the Cambridges Are Released Ahead of the Chelsea Flower Show [UPDATED]

Kensington Palace is going all out to promote the garden co-designed by the Duchess of Cambridge for the upcoming Chelsea Flower Show. The garden seeks to encourage adults and children to spend more time outdoors to support mental health, and will be accessible to the public starting Tuesday. Tomorrow, however, is the preview day, during which we expect to see a few members of the Royal Family take a look at the exhibits, including Kate.

A Duke, a Duchess & a Marchioness

First of all, the above photo is EPIC considering it’s nearly three years old.

Anyway, as I noted in the first of what has been a million posts I’ve written today, I have been keeping up with royal news despite my (work-induced) sabbatical. As such, I watched the reporting of the Duke of Cambridge’s rumored affair play out in real time, of which I’m glad because the timing of how this unfolded is key.

Princess Charlotte Turns 4

Princess Charlotte 3

Ok, I know I’ve been out of the loop with posting, so over the next couple of days [edit: hours, apparently] I’m going to back fill much of the spring. In the meantime, I wanted to share the three new photos of Princess Charlotte that Kensington Palace released yesterday in honor of her fourth birthday today.

As always, the images were captured by Charlotte’s mother, the Duchess of Cambridge. These particular snaps were taken last month when the family was at Anmer Hall, their house in Norfolk.

The Queen Hosts Her Annual Christmas Luncheon

On Wednesday, Dec. 19, members of the British Royal Family joined the Queen for her annual Christmas luncheon at Buckingham Palace. The event marks one final hurrah for the family in London before the monarch decamps to Sandringham in Norfolk for the Christmas holiday. The meal is private, and thus our only images from it come from various royal arriving at BP in their cars.

The “Fab Four” Release [Separate] Christmas Cards

2018

Well, this was quite the week to release Christmas cards, no? Headline after headline was picking apart reported tension percolating within Kensington Palace, from feuds between the Duchesses of Cambridge and Sussex to sibling rivalry reaching a boiling point with Princes William and Harry. In the midst of this – perhaps to give the press something else to focus on as the Royal Family packed it in for the holiday – KP released two Christmas cards for each couple.

For our purposes, of course, these are not so much cards as they are images, but given that we don’t get them every year it is a nice end of year treat. In this case, the Cambridges’ card was what I think everyone was hoping for – a relaxed, informal image of the family of five with an updated look at the kids, especially Prince Louis.

The Prince of Wales Turns 70

Charles

Today is the Prince of Wales’s birthday, marking 70 years since he made his debut at Buckingham Palace just 11 months after his parents’ famous post-war wedding. By the age four he would become the heir to the throne, by 11 he would be created Prince of Wales, by 21 he would be invested with the title and before he turned 30 he would found the Prince’s Trust, a charitable organization that grew from strength to strength and is still flourishing.

Princess Eugenie Ties the (Windsor) Knot

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank are officially married! The Royal Family – and a slew of high-profile British guests – turned up in their wedding best for a ceremony at St George’s Chapel, Windsor this morning. The bride wore Peter Pilotto, the Duke of York walked her down the aisle, Andrea Boccelli sang Ave Maria, Prince George was a ham and Princess Beatrice gave a reading from The Great Gatsby of all things.
