The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge carried out two engagements in Leicester today – one to honor the victims from a recent local helicopter crash and the second to Leicester University. It also marked the couple’s first public appearance since last weekend’s news that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would be decamping from Kensington Palace to Frogmore amidst rumors of familial tension.
But before we get there, let’s cover off on the engagements themselves. William delivered a tribute to the crash victims, including Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, owner of Premier League football club Leicester City.
The couple visited King Power Stadium where the crash took place last month and met with volunteers who helped move tributes placed at the stadium.
Later on, the two toured the Leicester University campus to learn more about educational programs supported by the City of Leicester. Outside, the two partook in a brief walkabout to meet with locals who came out to say hello.
And it was here, of course, where the day’s best candid and off-the-cuff remarks came from. Kate was asked whether she was excited about Meghan’s pregnancy, to which she responded, “Yes absolutely, no it’s such a special time to have all kiddies. And a cousin for George and Charlotte as well, and Louis. So it will be really special.”
Further, she noted that Prince George and Princess Charlotte were excited about Christmas (well, duh), and then offered: “And Louis is getting bigger. I can’t believe he’s seven months now. He’s getting a big boy!”
Frankly, I can hardly believe it either, but for different reasons, such as how is it the end of November?!? But, let’s move on: Kate wore a grey Catherine Walker coat dress that we first saw a glimpse of this past August when the Cambridges visited the Queen at Balmoral.
This was actually simpler and more casual than I first imagined it when we saw it over the summer. It reminds me of that brown Orla Kiely coatdress Kate used to wear, and while the collar and black ribbon in her hair are a little twee for me, it’s all very on-brand, if you will, and she looks lovely.
With that, we’ll next see these two on Tuesday, Dec. 4, while it’s unclear when we’ll next see Meghan given that Harry is currently touring Zambia. We’ll see!
