Prince Louis Turns 1

It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since Prince Louis made his debut on the steps of Lindo Wing, but…here we are! And to accompany the occasion, Kensington Palace released three new photos of the Prince taken by his mother, the Duchess of Cambridge, at Anmer Hall earlier in April.

(Since I’m back-dating this post, I’ll also note that these were probably taken at the same time as Princess Charlotte’s birthday photos.)

Over the course of his first year, I think we have actually seen more of Louis than we did of George or Charlotte at the same age. He was included in Charlotte’s birthday photo last year, the Prince of Wales’s 70th birthday family portraits, and the Cambridge family Christmas card in December. He was also photographed at his christening last summer, while the Cambridges released an additional candid taken at Clarence House shortly thereafter.

It’s a sign that William and Kate are loosening the reigns a bit on their children’s privacy, or at least doing a more elegant job of managing their necessary desire for security with the public’s understandable desire to know their royal family.

As for the photos themselves, Holy Middleton does this kid look like Kate. Charlotte is widely accepted to be a mini-Windsor, while George is a pretty even blend of Middleton features and Windsor coloring (to my eye, at least).

Louis, on the other hand, looks exactly like Kate, while his eyes actually remind me of Kate’s brother, James.

Also worth noting is that Louis is wearing more traditional (or rather, more modern) baby clothing than anything we saw George in at the same time. Trousers! On a baby! Imagine!
