Let’s start with the big news and work our way through: Buckingham Palace confirmed last week that the Cambridges and the Sussexes will formally separate their households. In fact, a new household will be created for Harry and Meghan this spring in coordination with the couple’s move to Windsor and the birth of their first child. Their new joint operations will be based out of Buckingham Palace.

Happy Monday, everyone! For those who haven’t seen the news yet, today was a big day – Kensington Palace announced that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expecting their first child, due in the spring of 2019. Pregnancy rumors have been swirling for the last couple of weeks, hitting a crescendo when Meghan wore a loose-fitting Givenchy coat to Princess Eugenie’s wedding on Friday and appeared to be blocking her mid-section with a clutch as she walked into the chapel.
It’s gearing up to be a particularly busy autumn for the Royal Family this year, between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s first long-term tour abroad and the Duchess of Cambridge’s return from maternity leave. September through early December always tend to be the busiest months, with a particular uptick in the number of engagements and appearances in the second half of October and November.
With that in mind, here’s a little bit about what’s on the horizon – and what you can expect here on this site.
The Duke of Cambridge is off on his working visit to Kenya, Namibia and Tanzania, which kicks off tomorrow and will last until September 30. The trip is on behalf of Tusk, and while it’s unclear how much information will be forthcoming given that this isn’t an official tour, it’s likely that we’ll get a least some photos and updates over the next week.

Well, enough minor stories have built up that I’ve decided it’s time for a brief royal roundup. The first item on the agenda is that the Duchess of Cambridge has in fact carried out her first engagement this autumn – albeit, behind the scenes. Yesterday, she and the Duke met with Miguel Head as he formally stepped down from his position as William’s private secretary.

After two weeks of radio silence since the Duke of Cambridge’s engagement in Amiens, Kensington Palace emerged from the depths of August to announce three new engagements for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Summer is officially coming to an end as the Royal Family – sans the Queen – returns to a full work docket.
Oookay, we’re going to keep this short and sweet, but I wanted to quickly cover off on two recent announcements…well, they’re really more updates. The first is that details on the itinerary for the Duke of Cambridge’s upcoming visit to the Middle East have been disclosed, while the second is that we finally have a formal announcement of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s first tour.

First of all, big thank you to the Duke of Cambridge for posing in the above photo. Really made up for what has been a slow week in royal news. Indeed, most of what drove headlines these past few days is news that the Duchess of Sussex will accompany the Queen for engagements next week. Yes, one away-day and all this speculation! But it’s to be expected after all the wedding excitement and it is a big step in Meghan’s royal career.
In the future, I would really love it if the House of Windsor didn’t release a bunch of new information after I’ve already scheduled a weekly roundup. But instead of posting updates yesterday I just decided to pull together a separate post for everything that hit Thursday evening and Friday morning.
