Today, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the Nelson Mandela centenary exhibit at Queen Elizabeth Hall at Southbank Centre. The exhibit, which commemorates the 100th anniversary of Mandela’s birth year, was curated jointly by the Apartheid Museum in South Africa, the British Anti-Apartheid Movement Archives and the Southbank Centre. This is the first time it has made its way to the UK.

Louis’s Christening Photos Are Released

Waleses

Kensington Palace released four photos from Prince Louis’s christening last Monday. The photos were taken at the Prince of Wales’s residence in London, Clarence House, by photographer Matt Holyoak and feature various assortments of the Wales side of the family and the Middletons.

The above, of course, features the royal branch and you’ll note that in the background there’s a portrait of the Queen – a nice nod to the matriarch not able to attend the day’s ceremony.

Kate Makes a Surprise Appearance at the RAF Centenary

Just one day after Prince Louis’s christening, the Duchess of Cambridge made a surprise appearance at the centenary ceremony and celebration of the Royal Air Force (RAF). Kate turned up alongside the Duke of Cambridge and the rest of the Royal Family at Westminster Abbey and then joined them on the balcony at Buckingham Palace for a flypast. Like a mini Trooping the Colour, really.

While today’s appearance was unexpected, it follows the same pattern Kate has taken during her maternity leaves in the past, which is that after a couple of months completely off, she begins to turn up here and there for a smattering of headliner engagements related to her patronages. As Honorary Air Commandant of the RAF, today made sense, and I think it will help mitigate criticism that may come up if she attends Wimbledon later this week.

This afternoon, Prince Louis was christened in Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace in London. He was feted by both sets of grandparents, three uncles, two aunts, five godparents and the Archbishop of Canterbury. Not too shabby for an 11-week-old. Today also marked the first time we’ve seen all five members of the Cambridge family in one place, with the Duke of Cambridge arriving with Prince George and Princess Charlotte in each hand, and the Duchess following with Louis.

Meghan Attends the First Day of Ascot with the Rest of the RF

Well, apologies again for being late to the party, but it’s been that kind of week…and it’ll be that kind of next week if we’re being really honest. HOWEVER, there’s no way I’m going to skip the opening day of Ascot, particularly when the Duchess of Sussex showed up for the first time, so let’s catch up!

Trooping the Colour 2018

Trooping the Colour is always one of the biggest events on the royal calendar each year. This was especially the case this year thanks to it being the Duchess of Sussex’s inaugural appearance and a rare public appearance from the Duchess of Cambridge, who is still on maternity leave. Even with expectations high, I thought both women nailed it on the sartorial front.

Royal Roundup: Bikes, Trains & Dogs

First of all, big thank you to the Duke of Cambridge for posing in the above photo. Really made up for what has been a slow week in royal news. Indeed, most of what drove headlines these past few days is news that the Duchess of Sussex will accompany the Queen for engagements next week. Yes, one away-day and all this speculation! But it’s to be expected after all the wedding excitement and it is a big step in Meghan’s royal career.

Today, the Prince of Wales hosted the season’s third official garden party at Buckingham Palace on behalf of his mother, the Queen. This is the first time that he’s taken on hosting duties for one of these parties and it’s yet another sign of him shouldering more of the monarch’s duties as the Queen gets older. We will, however, see the Queen at Scotland’s annual garden party at Holyrood Palace the first week of July.
