The U.S. State Visit [Updated]

Monday kicked off a three-day state visit from the United States, and while meetings and public engagements will be ongoing today and tomorrow, most of the big ticket (read: royal) items happened on Day One.

There’s been some ongoing conversation online as to which members of the Royal Family supported the Queen during this particular visit, and so I think it’s worth noting that generally there is one family member – and their spouse if they’re married – that acts as the host, while other family members will attend certain engagements, and then a good group of them joins the state banquet held at Buckingham Palace.

The ‘Fab Four’ May Split the Royal Foundation

A new article this morning from royal reporter Emily Andrews says that the Sussexes may split from the Royal Foundation, the charitable organization that they co-lead with the Cambridges. Nothing official has been confirmed by the Palace, and per the article, nothing has been formalized internally at this point, but Andrews’ reporting over the last year has been pretty spot-on with what’s going on with the royal household(s).

The Duke & Duchess of Sussex One Year Out

On the one hand, it’s hard to believe it’s been a full year since Meghan Markle officially joined the Royal Family as HRH The Duchess of Sussex, but on the other, so, so much has happened since then. Last spring was all babies and wedding galore, and royal news seemed to sprout up multiple times a day thanks to Markle family drama, Prince Louis’s debut, new tours, and speculation over how Meghan (an American! an actress!) would fit in.

Things are quieter now, for sure, but also a little uneasier, no? And we still don’t have a firm answer on the last question, though I do believe that Meghan has done a fantastic job with her work thus far. The dust, however, has still not quite settled.

The Cambridges Visit Archie

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge reportedly went out to Windsor yesterday afternoon after they and the Duke of Sussex wrapped up the day’s engagements, according to multiple outlets. Their children didn’t join them, though a few articles note that they plan to introduce them to Archie when he’s a little older. The visit apparently lasted over an hour.

The Royal Foundation, led by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, launched a new 24/7 textline to support people in crisis. The service, Give Us a Shout, was quietly rolled out earlier this year on a trial basis and has reportedly already served 60,000 people. It’s also based on volunteers, of which it has amassed 1,000, with William calling for another 3,000 in the video share by the organization this morning.

Meet Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor [Updated]

Archie

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex introduced their new son to the world a few hours ago, turning up for a photo call and brief interview in St George’s Hall in Windsor Castle. Following tea with the Queen during which it’s believed they personally shared with her the name, the Palace announced that the latest royal addition has been named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor

A Royal Birth & the Media

Slightly off-topic, granted, but I think the rest of today is going to be mainly speculation as we wait to learn Baby Boy Sussex’s name and for the release of official photos. As such, I thought I would share a little bit about what is going on with reporter chatter online surrounding the birth announcement, as well as some interesting takeaways from an article I stumbled across interviewing Miguel Head, the former chief of staff for the Dukes of Cambridge and Sussex.

It’s a boy! The Palace announced that the Duchess of Sussex has been safely delivered of a son, following an earlier announcement that she went into labor early this morning with the Duke by her side. The baby weighs 7 lbs 3 oz, and per the statement from Buckingham Palace, the Sussexes are home at Frogmore Cottage with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland.

The Household Split…And All That Entails

So, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have officially taken up residence at Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor estate, and with that has come the already-announced division of their household from that of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at Kensington Palace. As discussed here, their operation falls under the umbrella of Buckingham Palace, and as discussed here, there’s nothing inherently shocking about this split.

But of course, it has provided plenty of fodder for gossip and tabloids thanks to the now long-rumored animosity between William and Harry, and the launch of the Sussexes’ independent Instagram account.
